Sumi-e Instructor Certification

Instructor Qualification Overview


Anyone wishing to teach Sumi-e must obtain this qualification. Those who have earned this qualification through our association are actively teaching Sumi-e at certified studios and cultural schools.

To be eligible for the Instructor Qualification, students must have studied in the Basic (Instructor Qualification) Course for two or more years, submitted all required assignments to the International Sumi-e Association and passed, and been selected two or more times in the International Sumi-e Association Exhibition.


Examples of Activities after Completion


Upon obtaining instructor certification, you may apply to open a certified classroom under the International Sumi-e Association. Many certified instructors also go on to host workshops and events, or pursue careers as professional artists.

Obtaining Master Certificate


Those who hold the Instructor Qualification may advance to the higher-level Master Instructor Course, where students explore 24 subjects over two years, including lotus, tiger, dragon, Chinese landscape, and silk painting.

To be eligible for the Master Instructor Qualification, students must hold the Instructor Qualification, have completed two or more years of study in the Master Instructor Course, submitted all required curriculum assignments to the International Sumi-e Associationand passed, and have been selected a cumulative total of four or more times in the International Sumi-e Association Exhibition.
